We are Caritas Egypt; as the “social arm” of the Catholic church, we seek comprehensive and sustained human development and work through brotherly cooperation and partnership to promote human life and human dignity through building a community with more awareness and resilience.
We strive for social change by empowering people so that they may realise their potential. Our services are open to everyone in need, without distinction of religion, gender, ability or origin.

our story
serving egypt since 1967
Caritas Egypt was registered with the Ministry of Social Affairs in 1967 under No. 1150, and recognised as a public utility organisation in 1975.
What began as relief work grew into a national development organisation. Micro-credit began in 1970. The refugee programme opened in 1977 and has since served people fleeing conflict from across the region and beyond. The SETI Centre for persons with disabilities was founded in 1986. Community development in the West Nubareya desert started in 1992 and formalised into nine community associations from 2002.
Between 2020 and 2023 the organisation went through a deep transformation: new financial policies, an updated HR manual, anti-corruption measures, procurement standards, a gender equality policy and a risk management framework — aligning Caritas Egypt with Caritas Internationalis Management Standards.

Caritas Egypt is a member of Caritas Internationalis, the confederation founded in December 1951 that today brings together 165 Catholic relief, development and social service organisations working in almost every country in the world.
Membership means shared standards, shared learning and the ability to move quickly when crisis crosses borders — as it did during the 1992 earthquake and the flooding that followed.
